Mission Critical. Contain the Virus and Recovery will follow.
SVED is in full support of the Isolation and Shelter in Place Order for Blaine County. We are aware of the debate at the national and local levels around public health and economic priorities. At SVED, the priority is public health and safety.
Furthermore, framing the debate in terms of “Public Health” versus “The Economy” is a false dichotomy. Our observations of areas already affected by the virus and what we know about how COVID-19 is transmitted demonstrates that the faster we can contain the spread of the virus, the faster we can return to regular economic activity.
Until widespread testing and tracing is available, the only way to limit the spread of COVID-19 is through isolation. Prolonging the spread of the virus not only continues to overwhelm our health system it delays our economic recovery.
SVED is encouraging all jurisdictions within Blaine County to adopt compatible policies regarding essential business. Our community containment efforts cannot work with different rules in different places.
SVED is encouraging every person and business in Blaine County to respect the directives in place now and in the future.
The road to economic recovery is paved through containment of COVID-19. Any actions in the name of economic activity that promote the spread of the virus are counter-productive to that end.

Message from SVED

March 18, 2020

SVED is joining with many others in our community to do our part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The situation continues to evolve rapidly and what seemed far-fetched just days ago becomes our new reality in the blink of an eye.

First and foremost, SVED is following the guidance from  The CDC, South Central Public Health and our local health-care professionals and we encourage everyone to do the same. Secondly, SVED is dedicating its resources to fully focus on our existing business community to provide support and business retention services.

We are currently compiling a list of financial and other resources to make available online. We will also move to more regular email communications with business best practices, asset reallocation demands and supplies to help mitigate the impacts of the virus on business (when possible) and links to new resources as they become available.

Please share your virus response stories and keep us apprised of the impacts to your business in particular. This will help us quantify the impacts and facilitate making Blaine County eligible for state and federal aid.

Initially, we are encouraging every business to develop a business continuity plan and to conduct a three month cash flow forecast to help you understand what type of help to seek and how much.

We are fortunate to live in a such a strong community and we will get through this and we will do it together.

Stay Healthy,

Harry and the SVED Board of Directors
